Being in a demoralizing situation will do that to you.

Seriously, fuck Another Man's Treasure in Waterbury, CT. I came in just to be a spare guy who prices things, and ended up given more responsibility just so the boss can blame someone else for his fuck ups.

It was the worst experience I've ever had working with someone. I left when he started refusing to pay me. THAT's the kind of scumbag he was.

Aaaaaaanyway... enough said about that. So yeah, it's been a while.

So today I was on Daily Motion, viewing something for a review. I notice the video froze a lot, so I just thought it was my lackluster Toshiba Satellite. Nope. It was video ads.

Video ads... on a video site, going off WHILE my chosen video was playing. Constantly refreshing and changing the ads every minute or so. THAT was the reason my video was stuttering.

Daily Motion also didn't even BOTHER to make sure that their video ads didn't automatically play audio. THAT is when I realized that, even though I myself have NO PROBLEM WITH ADS on the internet in general... hell, it's where I pick up a few cents every now and again... I HAD to start using AdBlock.

Things are moving much smoother now... but it does trouble me a bit.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14454294333544501581noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5454522706128449409.post-60678412053929000902013-11-25T22:32:00.000-05:002013-11-25T22:51:21.730-05:00RIP Brother Walt - July 1, 1937 - November 18, 2013

I heard it late. However, it hit me just as hard as it would have regardless.

Brother Walt, as I mentioned previously on this site, was the guy who got me my break into television. Sure, it was public access, but it opened the door to me for SO much. Many of the best times of my life happened doing public access, and I owe all of that to Brother Walt.

If you want more details on my time on his show, feel free to read my write-up here. It was an extremely formative time for me, and the chance that Walt gave me had a HUGE influence in my desire to go ahead and continue in broadcasting.

And I can't thank him enough for that.

I think if I were to come up with a favorite memory with Walt, I would have to say it was all the times we would go to the local Athenian Diner after shows. The conversations were plenty, and the advice given was absolutely key to the person I have become today.

Thank you so much, Brother Walt. I'll miss you.
Before anything else, I just want to thank everyone who has supported Sledgecorp Productions over the years. Ever since our horrendous first AOL page, to our longest home at sledgecorp.cjb.net, from our days on SKYE XIII and VBCTV to our current YouTube, Blip, Twitter and Blogspot residences, you've never lost the faith, so to speak. I thank you from the bottom of my heart!

And I must also thank you for following us through all of our topics and interests. Be it machinima, pro-wrestling, comics and movies, politics, video games and even mind-numbing public access TV, I appreciate that you've been coming here and enjoying our content!

So we'd like to present you with the following updates!

- We're very close to add yet something else to the Sledgecorp Productions umbrella... an as of yet unnamed English practice show for native Japanese speakers! This show will draw upon my years of experience as an English teacher in Japan in a way that I hope learners will enjoy! More details coming soon!

- The SLEDGE-A-TORIAL has FINALLY spun off into it's own website! The SLEDGE-A-TORIAL is basically my soapbox in mostly politics, but also a number of other subjects as well. As the series originated on this site, the original articles will remain here, so that there are no linking issues, but further entries will be exclusive to the new site. As these editorials can often be biased and controversial, Read with caution! Information can be dangerous, after all...

- In broadcast news, a number of ideas are being considered for our return to Public Access TV on SKYE XIII. One idea involves a compilation show of everything that we've produced since our last episode of "B.S.". And speaking of "B.S.," the other idea is yet another series of the seminal Public Access show of the early 2000s. We'll keep everyone updated! And perhaps needless to say, there will be new old eps of "B.S." coming very soon!

- In our web publishing division, 2012 and 2013 have both been amazing years, as 2012 brought us Prixel Derp, our retro-gaming site, and 2013 brought to bear it's sister sites, Puro WAVE for pro-wrestling (I can't run away from it, no matter how hard I try), and Phantom Screamer for comics and film.

- Speaking of Prixel Derp, we have now joined forces with Obsolete Gamer, the premiere up and coming video game website! Come see our content, and stay for everyone else's!

- Finally, you've asked for it, you've got it! More OJ-FWA Pro-Wrestling machinima content is on it's way!

Once again, thank you all, and let's hope for atleast another 14 years!

Catch ya.
But people can't seem to decide what exactly is the "discretional spending" that can be excised without much trouble or fervour.

This man, Representative Lamar Smith...

...who, judging by this picture, barely realizes where he is, thinks that we spend WAY TOO MUCH on National Science Foundation, mainly on research that doesn't supposedly "meet national priorities."

It's called the High Quality Research Act, and it's currently in it's draft stage.

Here are some of it's most egregious bits:

- Does away with the Peer Review Process

Because don't YOU hate it when others try to make sure your research isn't bullshit?

- Discounts the importance of research duplication

Really?

- Scientists cannot independently verify experimental results from other laboratories

So, it's "one and done," huh? No need to check to make sure the results aren't COMPLETELY WRONG I guess.

But don't worry. This Rep is COMPLETELY on the level. After all, he's on the SCIENCE comitee:

Not only that... HE'S THE CHAIRMAN!

Also, for those who are unaware, this is also the main guy behind CISPA.

THAT ended up being REAL popular.

But how much money would we be saving making sure things meet this criteria? Hell, how much do we SPEND on the National Science Foundation? A whopping 0.2%.

That's right. Gut the entire scientific method out of research, and make these 'conclusions' unverifiable, and save pennies off the already pitiful amount we spend on science.

Unless it's military science. Then it's a blank check.

This time, it's Go! Go! OJ-FWA FIGHT TV Episode 1!
Show Description:
Welcome to the inaugural episode of Go! Go! OJ-FWA FIGHT TV!

We recap what went down between OJ-FWA Sekai Ningen-kyuu Champion Hidenori Tsujimoto and the new #1 contender Caleb Dod... as well as the egomaniacal Jack Dod.

In action, scheduled to join us is Amazonas, making her OJ-FWA debut!

We'll see Flash Jones in action... in the boxing ring!

Next, we'll have So Ryung Park in action!

Finally, it's a new chapter for the old rivalry: John "(C)" "Mickey Mofo" McKay squares off against Edison's Frank!

Production Notes:
OJ-FWA had been an on again and off again project since it's debut in 2005. What started as a way to show off created characters via Fire Pro Returns (both original and, well, not so original) transformed into a completely original series as more and more ideas for the established characters came into my head. The problem is, these ideas would take their sweet time coming. I would often refuse to do ANYTHING unless I was sure it was an A+ idea, which meant I would give myself lots of time to let things develop. On the plus side, I really feel this gave me compelling characters.

On the minus side, plots and storylines moved with the speed of a glacier. Hell, to this day, some of them STILL haven't been resolved.

So basically, I needed something to help things along... a way to kind of force myself to produce something with a bit more speed.

The concept was simple: find a format to quickly plug matches and segments into that wouldn't discourage me from doing so on a more often basis. Have old-school squash matches that would show off the characters moves, and if possible, their personalities and logic. Finally, produce it in a way that was reminiscent of the old-school puroresu tapes I used to import. And thus, Go! Go! OJ-FWA FIGHT TV was born!

OJ-FWA's new direction was 100% solidified with the just-occurred Champion's Soul Finals, an event that showcased the kind of production value I was looking for in a big-event-style program. So, I had the perfect storyline to start things off: long-time champ (we have a lot of those) Hidenori Tsujimoto was attacked by the up and coming outsider number one contender Caleb Dod to close out the show, a scene that had produced the most word of mouth OJ-FWA had since it's inception, and this had to be followed up upon. In the coming episodes, you will see where that eventually gets to.

Next, as the federation needed some fresh blood, Amazonas was created. Inspired by an old Amiga tracker mod that was used as her theme song (AMAZONAS.S3M), Amazonas took part in OJ-FWA's first squash match.

Then, a much underused character was given a chance to shine. Flash Jones, a character created by a college friend of mine, was criminally neglected. I figured a great way to get him going again was to show him in his most natural environment, a boxing ring! Using EA's Fight Night Round 3, this was accomplished. (Also, look for "The Tomato Can" to return again at some point!)

Finally, OJ-FWA's two most popular characters had make their presences felt in this inaugural episode as well. So Ryung Park, first created and modified from a CAW sample in Smackdown: Here Comes The Pain continued with her own squash match to reinforce her dominant characterization. John "(C)" McKay, originally created on Fire Pro 6 Man Scramble on the Sega Saturn faced his number one rival, Edisons Frank who, if you couldn't already tell, was based on Edison's Frankenstein. It is also a reference to the Sledgecorp Productions logo. He was originally created for Fire Pro D on the Dreacast.

This episode, besides the Flash segment, was produced using Smackdown vs. Raw 2010, a program that would be used throughout the series.

So that was the first episode of Fight TV! To this day, it is the most viewed episode in the history of the series.
What happened there was absolutely horrendous, and should never have happened.

But that's not going to stop some people from taking advantage of it.

Enter the AFA, otherwise known as the American Family Association.

According to Right Wing Watch, during an AFA radio show, Bryan Fischer said that God could have protected the victims of this massacre, but didn't because "God is not going to go where he is not wanted." Here it is, in video form:

However, it doesn't end there. Former Arkansas governor and presidential candidate Mike Huckabee also wanted to join in the fray. On Fox News, he said the following, "We ask why there is violence in our schools, but we have systematically removed God from our schools... Should we be so surprised that schools would become a place of carnage?"

There's more to it, of course. Here's the video, from Talking Points Memo:

Seems that WE CAN'T EVEN GET THROUGH THE WEEKEND without using a national tragedy for one's own purposes. Instead of actually talking about the real causes, we get the above. As usual, no conservative would dare consider tackling gun control or legislation in regards to mental illness checks and gun ownership, right? Please prove me wrong.

Goddamn please prove me wrong.

Welcome Sledgeamaniacs! Welcome once again to the SLEDGE-A-TORIAL!

Let's just get right into things...

The Pot

First off, it's being said that alcohol special interest groups are donating to anti-cannabis legalization efforts. One such prominent person being John Hickenlooper, governor of the state that recently voted to legalize it (via Proposition 64 on the election day ballot of this year).

There are a number of reasons one may assume that this is so in regards to the alcohol companies... I suppose they feel that if one smokes more pot, they are less likely to drink. To that I say... absolutely not! Sure, there may be a scant few who indeed may switch over, but for the most part most pot smokers are also alcohol drinkers. Just take a look at any college campus... you'll find both in the same places.

However, they are certainly not alone. Other groups who have attempted to keep marijuana illegal include pharmaceutical companies (as its effect on pain relief outdoes that of stuff like Advil or even Vicodin), police unions (as the ongoing "war on drugs" helps bring in more money), and private prison companies (who, of course, get paid to jail people via Government contracts). As you can see, all of these groups have various vested interests in the cause.

And, before anyone says anything, let me point out that I am NOT in favor of legalizing the dangerous stuff: coke, halucinogens, herion, etc, etc. But seriously, it's well into the 21st century and we are still debating this!

Man, fuck people.

The Post

A big to-do is being made of the New York Post's decision to publish a photograph of a slain Queens commuter moments before his death by train. While publishing the photo AT ALL would no doubt have caused tremendous grief for the family of the slain one, it is no doubt exacerbated by their splashing of the photo ON THE COVER OF THE PAPER.

Yes.

ON THE COVER. Go ahead, click the link above. I refuse to upload that to my site.

Oh, Rupert Murdoch... is there ANY depth that you won't stoop to?

Basically, the story behind the photo is one guy pushed another guy onto the tracks of an oncoming subway train, killing him while others stood by, one even taking time to take the picture, while THIS PERSON COULD HAVE BEEN ATTEMPTING TO SAVE HIM.

FUUUUUCK people.

The Perv

Finally, this one hits real close to home for me.

A teacher who works at Taft School in Watertown CT has been arrested on charges of possesion and distribution of child pornography.

Richard Doyle, 63 was apparently using some sort of peer to peer service to get it (I'm assuming something like Bit Torrent, as it is currently the most popular one), and using it to download and distribute. It's unclear if he used the school computers to do this.

What makes this even scarier is that he also was a filmaker and a few times took kids with him on trips to film movies. One assumes that they are not the ones in question, though who knows at this point. It should also be said that he was a regular director at the Warner Theater in Torrington, CT (the article I read these facts from seem to have dissapeared; I read it from the hardcopy version of the Waterbury Republican American, but the online version seems to have dissapeared. Wierd).

Now, as I mentioned above, this one hits REALLY close to home. I mean REALLY close. Like uncomfortably close. Why?

Because I know alot of people whose kids go to that school.

Hehe! Love the old school late-90's style opinion board banners, corny as they (especially this one) may be...

Anyway, the Sledge-A-Torial has been very serious as of late. I've discussed everything from a startling report on moneyed interests in lawmaking, to a woman who was sent to prison for NOT killing her abusive husband. Yessir, the Sledge-A-Torial has indeed been a bit too dark lately. That's all about to change tonight. For now, at least.

You know, there's nothing like a week-long vacation to get the mind a-thinkin'. We are now in the final stretches of Golden Week here in Japan. And as I hinted, it got me to thinkin' a bit too much. Namely about a certain HUGE, LIFE ALTERING MISTAKE I made about, oh, eight months ago. And as you can probably guess, with that much time on my hands to think about such things, I got kind of down-in-the-dumps, to put it mildly.

So I asked myself, "Chris 'Sledge' Douglas, what can you do that ALWAYS brings a smile to your face? Something that just makes you feel so much better about the world you inhabit?"

The answer was then crystal clear: Search the internet for videos of stupid people getting hurt.

Even just typing the phrase "people getting hurt" in my search bar put a certain kind of smile on my face. The kind that would perhaps horrify my mother if she was still around. At least until she started laughing as well!

Yes indeed, there is nothing better in life to do to lift one's spirits than to grab a stiff drink, type in the above GLORIOUS phrase, and let the dregs of humanity show you that, while there may or may not be a "god" out there, there is definitely karma!

But, there are so many of these kinds of videos out there. It could be very hard to choose what kind of failures to look at. So I decided to choose a topic very near and dear to me - backyard wrestling!

As a former 'yard tard' myself, I feel a certain affinity to these kinds of accidents. Not only did I never attempt anything close to the level of batshit insanity shown in the below exhibit of tumultuous beauty, but one has to consider the thought process of someone who would attempt such stupidity.

First, some notes. This is not a top ten list or anything comprehensive like that. I'm far too lazy to do that. Second, I did have some ground rules: the accident shouldn't lead to death, no young kids, etc. Third, all of these have been around for a while... but THAT certainly does not diminish how great they are.

Anyway, enough jibba-jabbuh... on with the show!

Marissa Alexander, in prison since 2010 for defending herself.

We all remember the Trayvon Martin case, right? A kid, carrying only a can of iced tea and a pack of Skittles, shot and killed by an overzealous neighborhood watcher, George Zimmerman. A guy who was later NOT EVEN ARRESTED, and was apparently protected under Florida's "Stand Your Ground" defense, which allowed killing if you, "reasonably believe that such force is necessary to prevent imminent death or great bodily harm to (yourself) or another or to prevent the imminent commission of a forcible felony." (Re: 2011 Florida Statutes 776.016 (1))

Remember that? It was only plastered all over the news a month or two ago.

Well, apparently it isn't applied equally to all.

In Jacksonville, Florida, one Marissa Alexander, nine days after the birth of a child, was fleeing from her husband Rico Gray. She ran to the garage, but the door was jammed, so Marissa grabbed a pistol to defend herself. Upon seeing this, Rico threatened to kill her. Marissa, determined to scare him off, fired upwards. It did indeed scare him off, but the incident landed HER in jail, awaiting a sentence of 20 years in prison for "aggravated assault with a deadly weapon." Having been in jail since 2010, she had since tried to use the "Stand Your Ground" defense to get herself out, only to be denied. (Huffington Post)

Why is that? Why was she denied this, while Zimmerman (at least until the media frenzy) was allowed to be free? Was it a time thing, having been arrested before the law was enacted?

Her husband admitted in deposition that he had been in five relationships that bore children, and he "put his hands" on all except one. How is SHE the one getting punished? HE ADMITTED THAT HE IS ABUSIVE. How can a guy, in Zimmerman, be allowed to be free for RUNNING AFTER A KID AND SHOOTING HIM, while someone else who DIDN'T kill their attacker, who was RUNNING AWAY, CLEARLY IN FEAR OF HER LIFE, but still didn't kill her attacker, being kept in prison in a mandatory 20 year sentence?

How does that work Florida? HOW DOES THAT FUCKING WORK?

Well, I decided to go. It was my first joshi show here...

AND IT TOOK ME TWO YEARS OF BEING HERE TO F'CKIN' DO IT! Unbelievable that it took me that long.

Anyway, I got alot to write, but since I just got back from that very event, I am COMPLETELY beat, so I'll write up a full, well, write up of my trip.

Oh, and since I'm one of those, "pics or it didn't happen" kind of guys, I took pics. Not really wonderful ones, but you could tell what's going on.

Well, actually I've been a fan of joshi pro-wrestling since about 1996, but I first noticed it in 1990 when I saw the 87 Survivor Series on video. I got cool with the Jumping Bomb Angels real quick.

It just took me two years of living here before venturing out to check out a show. Ironically, some years before coming here, I would have stated that it was my number 1 thing to do in Japan, were I to go. Of course, when I finally DID get here, life just sorta happened, and I got seriously sidetracked.

It's a bit long, but if you have the patience, I'm sure you'll be rewarded.

Well, first, a bit about the journey. I decided to leave the apartment at around 7pm or so the previous day, since I really like looking at nighttime Tokyo. Got to the train station at about 7:35 or so, and finally arrived in Shinjuku some time later. I decided to play it cheap and stay at an internet cafe for about 1,300 yen (12 bucks). Since my usual overnight place is a capsule hotel (called Capsule land) in Shibuya, I decided to look around there for a cafe. After all, if I couldn't find one, I would just say, "fuck it" and do my usual 3,000 yen stay at the hotel.

It ended up being pretty busy in Shibuya that night (it was a Saturday, after all) and it was pretty crowded. And the massage parlor solicitors were out in full force.

FULL FORCE.

THEY WERE EVERYWHERE. Walking away doesn't help. Pretend not to speak Japanese? Well, they speak English. About the only thing that works is to tell them that you've already gotten off tonight, so it's impossible. This one lady wouldn't get the message, so I ended up shouting, "もう何もないよ!金玉が渇いてるんだ!" (There's nothing left! My balls are dry!). This seemed to work.

Finally, I made it to the place, paid my 1,300 yen and got my cubicle. The place itself was nice; free drinks, food available, and all the manga and photobooks you could want. Despite all this, I opted to just watch some old Chaplin short flicks I read about on Wikipedia and then go to sleep in my reclining chair.

Only one problem... IT WAS TOO FUCKING HOT in there.

I'm real specific about my sleepable temperatures (which is why, although my apartment has two bedrooms, one with a Japanese style tatami floor-futon mattress setup, and one with an a western style bed, I usually opt to sleep in the living room where the AC is). So, I was only able to sleep in 2 one-hour spurts before finally giving up and getting one more on the floor, where it was MUCH cooler.

Well, morning came and I felt I needed a shower. Two hour wait, they said. Alright, fair enough. So I decided to try a few other places. EVERYWHERE I asked said that it was a two hour wait. By that time, I saw it was getting late, so I decided to head to Korakuen.

Tanning Salon Blacky

First off, I was surprised to find out that Korakuen Hall is actually part of the Tokyo Dome complex. So, my first trip to a joshi show and to Korakuen Hall was also my first visit to the 'Dome itself, and it's amusement park attraction-laden Tokyo Dome City!

Of all the things that caught my eye, the ferris wheel, the roller coaster (5th tallest in the world, actually), was this:

FUCKING BUBBA GUMP'S SHRIMP!

Sat around and ate some KFC while waiting (I ate BEFORE I saw the afore mentioned place, or else I would have eaten there) until around 12:00, then made my way to the Hall, and showed my "Special Ring-side reserved seat" ticket that I bought from 7-11. I was shown to my seat. 3rd row. Right behind the red corner.

By the way, those two surly Kooze-ish dudes were looking at me with expressions that didn't exactly conotate pleasure with my being there.

I gotta say this: both times I went to the Budokan to see NOAH, the other people there weren't very outgoing at all, which is kind of normal here. But the people sitting aroung me were COOL AS FUCK. Even giving me some chips as the event got started! One couple next to me even helped me with my streamers, since I had no idea how to set them up. In exchange I offered them some of my Bugles-type snack (called here Tonkari Corn).

The first match was an Ito Dojo Exhibition between Mai Ichii and Ayako Sato. They were pretty stiff with each other, though I was not at all familiar with either of them.

The next match was pretty odd, to say the least. First, Rumi Kazama came out to introduce her fellow glamour angel, Uchina (I think). She faced off against Obacchi who came out to the Sazae-san theme throwing candy. One happened to land in my lap.

I gave it to a kid in front of me who LOVED Obacchi. I wasn't the only one, either. The kid got a TON of candy! Obacchi even played to him when she faced our way! She wouldn't be the last person to do so either; Aiga literally had him in tears with her staring at him after her match.

Now we get to the semi main, with Takako Inoue (!) and Yumiko Hotta (who came out to Prodigy's "Funky Shit" with "1-2-3 Knock Out" mixed in... Bizzare) versus "Mr. Proresu" Shinobu Kandori and Noriyo Tateno (!). This one went EVERYWHERE in the hall... even by my area!

Tateno getting bloodied by a ladder shot (you can see the after effects if you try really hard)

Hotta giving everyone, including her parter, a verbal beatdown, with something about them not having a passion for pro-wrestling anymore.

A bloody and plenty peeved Tateno leaving the ring.

After intermission, the guy with the kid gave a bunch of us some juice boxes of Coffee! Nice guy!

Now onto the main event: Dynamite Kansai and Harley Saito versus Eagle Sawai and Mayumi Ozaki (!).

At this point, my camera's battery died.

There was some definite kayfabe "heat" between Kansai and Ozaki, which I thought was a nice touch.

The show ended with a retirement ceremony for Eagle, which had Jumbo Hori, Cuty Suzuki and Lioness Asuka (among others) enter the ring to give flowers.

That's pretty much it for the event. After the show I fucked around at Tokyo Dome City hitting up the roller coaster, haunted house, and drop tower rides before finally leaving.

The first motion picture adaptation of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. The unbilled cast included Augustus Phillips as Dr. Frankenstein, Charles Ogle as the Monster, and Mary Fuller as the doctor's fiancée. It was produced by the Edison Manufacturing Company Studios.

This movie was the subject of nearly twenty years of "searching" for me. I first found out about it in elementary school, and became interested in silent films ever since. A review of this film is on the short list for a new series of reviews catering to such public domain gems.

About 100 years later, the following remastered version was made, with new tinting and intertitles that contained more from the original novel:
Did you ever get the feeling that THEY aren't listening to you?
Ever feel that your government representative, be it senator, house member, or even president
isn't listening to you AT ALL?
Well, you're not alone.
I found the following recently, and quite frankly, it's FASCINATING. Larry Bartels, formerly of Princeton University's Department of Politics and the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs (now working for Vanderbilt), wrote a piece on this very topic, this copy last revised in 2005. It's 54 pages long, but once you get through the dry stuff (or I guess DRYER stuff) it's really compelling.
In short, it compares public opinion polls with senate voting data. Essentially, it examines the effect (if any) to legislation, of public opinion. The interesting thing about this work is that he focuses on public opinion polls that were arranged by income levels.
Here it is in his words:

"I examine the differential responsiveness of U.S. senators to the preferences of wealthy, middleclass,

and poor constituents. My analysis includes broad summary measures of senators’ voting

behavior as well as specific votes on the minimum wage, civil rights, government spending, and

abortion. In almost every instance, senators appear to be considerably more responsive to the

opinions of affluent constituents than to the opinions of middle-class constituents, while the

opinions of constituents in the bottom third of the income distribution have no apparent

statistical effect on their senators’ roll call votes. Disparities in representation are especially

pronounced for Republican senators, who were more than twice as responsive as Democratic

senators to the ideological views of affluent constituents. These income-based disparities in

representation appear to be unrelated to disparities in turnout and political knowledge and only

weakly related to disparities in the extent of constituents’ contact with senators and their staffs."

Sure, you might say that this was last updated in 2005, so this CAN'T possibly still be the case, right? Well, not only would you be wrong, I'd love to be in your shoes and see the world again through your innocent eyes. Let's take a look at a recent example:
In a recent Gallup Poll on the "Buffet Rule," it was seen to be favored by those polled 60% to 37% opposed. Later, the day of the vote, a CNN poll showed that 72% of those polled favored it versus 27% opposed.
It died in the senate, along mostly party lines.
If you're not familiar with the "Buffet Rule," it would be a tax plan would apply a minimum tax rate of 30 percent on individuals making more than a million dollars a year. The new tax rate would directly affect 0.3 percent of taxpayers.
Even before this, an attempt to stop subsidies going to large oil companies similarly died in the senate. Similarly, the idea of stopping such subsidies polls quite well.
I guess the only way to get what you want from the government is to have enough money to buy out legislators. Nice.
Look, I find myself squarely in the middle politically. I'm a guy that was at first in favor of Obama, but his ingnoring basic war crimes laws and his strange fascination with appealing to a base of voters he has no hope of winning over, so I'm certainly no friend of his. More on that later. But I certainly can't find any safe haven with today's republican either. So I'm pretty much fucked in the ass politically.
But for chrissakes, if we're going to be fucked in the ass, at least have the decency to give us a fucking reacharound every now and again. At least pretend that public opinion matters.
