The first motion picture adaptation of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. The unbilled cast included Augustus Phillips as Dr. Frankenstein, Charles Ogle as the Monster, and Mary Fuller as the doctor's fiancée. It was produced by the Edison Manufacturing Company Studios.

This movie was the subject of nearly twenty years of "searching" for me. I first found out about it in elementary school, and became interested in silent films ever since.  A review of this film is on the short list for a new series of reviews catering to such public domain gems.

About 100 years later, the following remastered version was made, with new tinting and intertitles that  contained more from the original novel:
